Causes of varicose veins

Various causes lead to the development of varicose veins. If, for example, the vascular walls of the veins are no longer elastic and strong enough, a backlog of blood can occur, causing the blood to clog and varicose veins to form.Other causes of varicose veins are hereditary factors, an unhealthy lifestyle (smoking, obesity), hormones (performing estrogens) that weaken the connective tissue, lack of exercise and varicose veins as a result of a blood clot in the deep veins of the leg.

Prevent varicose veins

In order to prevent the development of varicose veins you can change your everyday life accordingly. Even small changes can have a big effect. Among the measures are:

  • Regular endurance sports
  • Avoid long periods of sitting or standing
  • The integration of strengthening exercises for the legs into everyday life
  • A fiber-rich diet with reduction of sugar and fat intake,
  • Abstain from excessive alcohol consumption and nicotine,
  • Alternating showers to stimulate the blood circulation
  • As well as the avoidance of great heat, as this leads to vasodilatation and makes the return transport of the blood more difficult.

Ointments

Another supplement to the treatment of varicose veins is the use of various ointments: Hirudoid ointment: The ointment contains the active ingredient mucopolysaccharide polysulfuric acid ester. It has a cooling, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant effect, strengthens connective tissue and is said to promote the regression of swelling and bruising. Antistax Vein Cream: The cream contains the herbal active ingredient vine leaves thick extract and is effective against heavy legs and circulatory disorders.

Kytta Ointment F: The ointment contains the herbal agent comfrey root fluid extract, which among other things helps against inflammation, swelling and pain.
