Causes on the finger

In the case of tendosynovitis of the fingers, the tendon fans of the finger flexor tendons are in most cases inflammationally affected. This is usually caused by overloading or incorrect loading of the finger flexor muscles. This can be caused, among other things, by manual activities such as sawing or knitting, by racquet sports such as tennis, badminton or table tennis, by making music at the piano, by typing on keyboards and by doing weight training in the form of weight lifting or dumbbell exercises.

But also bacterial infections or the inflammation development in the context of rheumatic basic illnesses (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis) can in rare cases trigger a tendon sheath inflammation of the fingers. Bacterial infections can be caused by external injuries to the fingers as well as by the spread of bacteria in the context of systemic infections. Often several fingers are affected at the same time, although not all of them must be equally affected.

Causes at the ankle joint

Tendinitis in the area of the ankle joint is usually caused by an incorrect and/or overstressed athletic activity on the foot, for example, due to unusual physical strain or a too rapid increase in the strength or duration of the strain. The most common sports in which tendosynovitis of the ankle joint can occur are running, athletics and skiing (cross-country skiing). However, injuries to the tendons in the form of small tears, such as those caused by bending over in the ankle joint, can also lead to friction in the tendon sheaths due to the scarred healing process, so that in the course of this chronic irritation, an inflammation occurs. As with all tendon sheath inflammations of different localization, bacterial infections or rheumatic basic diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis) can be the cause in rare cases. Inflammation of the tendon compartments at the ankle usually occurs in the rear area of the outer ankle, where the tendons of the peroneal muscles of the lower leg run.
