Cefprozil was commercially available as film-coated tablets and as a suspension (Procef). It was approved in many countries in 1995 and is currently no longer available.
Structure and properties
Cefprozil (C18H19N3O5S, Mr = 389.4 g/mol) is present in drugs as cefprozil monohydrate, a white to yellowish powder that is sparingly soluble in water.
Effects
Cefprozil (ATC J01DA41) has bactericidal properties. The effects are due to inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Indications
For treatment of bacterial infectious diseases with susceptible pathogens.
Dosage
According to the professional information. The intake is independent of meals.
Contraindications

Interactions
Drug-drug interactions are possible with probenecid and aminoglycosides.
Adverse effects
The most common possible adverse effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, eosinophilia, diaper rash, superinfections, genital itching, vaginitis, and elevation of liver enzymes ALT and AST.
