Cervical Cancer: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of cervical cancer (cancer of the uterine cervix).

Family history

  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common? (Tumor diseases)

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • How long have these symptoms been present?
  • Have you noticed any cycle abnormalities such as prolonged (> 6 days and increased menstruation (menorrhagia) or vaginal bleeding occurring outside of menstruation (menstruation) (metrorrhagia)?
  • Have you noticed any discharge from the vagina? What does this look like?
  • Do you have pain during sexual intercourse? Has bleeding occurred after sexual intercourse?
  • Do you have back/abdominal pain?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • How old were you when you first had sexual intercourse?
  • Do you have frequently changing sexual partners?
  • Do you attach much importance to your and your partner’s genital hygiene?
  • Do you go regularly to cancer screening?
  • Have you had a positive HPV test (especially for women over 30)?
  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Have you noticed any changes in bowel movements and/or urination?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars, or pipes per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

  • Pregnancies

  • Immunosuppressants
  • Long-term use of the “pill”
