Cinchonae cortex – cinchona bark: the whole or cut bark of Vahl ( Pavon), of (Weddell), of (Moens ex Trimen), of their varieties and hybrids (PhEur). The PhEur requires a minimum content of alkaloids.

Effects
Drug: as a bitter agent quinidine: antiarrhythmic quinine: local irritant, local anesthetic, antiparasitic: kills unicellular organisms, e.g. bacteria, trypanosomes, plasmodia.
Indications
- Drug: as a bitter remedy for loss of appetite, bloating and gastrointestinal complaints.
- Quinidine: cardiac arrhythmia
- Quinine: malaria, calf cramps (see there).
Dosage
Drug: as an infusion, half an hour before meals, daily dose 1-3 g of drug.
