Chronic appendicitis

The diagnosis of chronic appendicitis is often controversial. One speaks of chronic appendicitis when repeated, almost symptomless inflammatory episodes of the appendix have occurred but have regressed on their own. The symptoms are often very discreet but always recurring.

Surgery is often an embarrassing solution, but provides lasting relief to the majority of those affected. Histological preparation of the specimen often reveals adhesions and inflammatory infiltrates.
