Chronic tonsillitis
The chronic form of tonsillitis is caused by a complete or even partial closure of the depressions in the almond tissue (crypts). In contrast to acute tonsillitis, the tonsils are reduced in size. In addition to persistent, unpleasant bad breath, chronic tonsillitis can also lead to the formation of focal points.
This means that as a result of existing centres of inflammation in the palatal tonsils, inflammation can also occur in other organs or in the joints. However, this theory is currently being discussed. In the chronic form of tonsillitis, the only remaining therapeutic option is surgical removal of the palatine tonsils with subsequent antibiotic treatment.
