Citrulline is commercially available in the form of sachets containing a drinkable solution (Biostimol). It has been approved in many countries since 1996.

Structure and properties

L-(+)-citrulline (C6H13N3O3, Mr = 175.2 g/mol) exists as a white crystalline powder that is readily soluble in water. Citrulline is an amino acid found, for example, in watermelon. The name is derived from the generic name. Citrulline is also formed in human metabolism in the urea cycle as an intermediate.

Indications

As a supportive treatment for physical asthenia (severe and general lack of strength), especially for states of exhaustion after prolonged illness, for lack of strength in the elderly, and for exhaustion after surgery.

Dosage
