Structure and properties
Clobetasone butyrate (C26H32ClFO5, Mr = 479.0 g/mol) exists as a white powder that is practically insoluble in water. It has structural similarities to betamethasone. Clobetasone butyrate is a halogenated and esterified dermocorticoid.
Effects
Clobetasone butyrate (ATC D07AB01) has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and immunosuppressive properties. It is a very potent class II topical glucocorticoid.
Indications
For the treatment of noninfectious, inflammatory skin conditions.
Dosage
According to the professional information. The cream or ointment is applied in a thin layer to the diseased skin once or twice daily.
Contraindications
Clobetasone butyrate is contraindicated in hypersensitivity, rosacea, acne, perioral dermatitis, skin ulcers, vaccine reactions, and infectious skin diseases (bacteria, viruses, fungi). For complete precautions, see the drug label.
