Coccyx pain in connection with contractions

Contractions can occur as early as the 20th week of pregnancy, known as labor pains. These contractions can also manifest themselves as back pain, abdominal pain or coccyx pain, but they should not occur more than 3 times per hour before the birth date and not at regular intervals, otherwise a doctor should be consulted. Birth pangs, at the beginning the so-called opening pangs, express themselves in regular intervals, which are longer at the beginning and then become smaller and smaller. These opening contractions also hurt more in the area of the coccyx at the beginning and later move into the abdomen and possibly into the legs. Relief can be achieved, for example, by a massage with a hedgehog ball or by applying heat to the back.

Employment ban

The Maternity Protection Act contains not only regulations on the design of the workplace and the prohibition of dismissal but also employment prohibitions. It currently applies only to women who are employed or working from home, not to female students, pupils or self-employed persons. The regulations for female civil servants are also described separately by the federal and state governments.

On the one hand, there is an individual employment ban that depends on whether the life or health of the mother or child is at risk in the individual case. In individual cases this can be, for example, a psychological problem, tendency to vomit or a previous miscarriage. The individual employment ban must be issued by a medical certificate describing the respective problem.

In addition, there is a job-related employment ban that refers to the conditions at the workplace. There must be a competent assessment by the employer, for example also in cooperation with a company physician, in order to assess the risk to the pregnant woman and child. The pregnant woman can then be transferred or released from work, for example.

If the attending physician has the impression that the circumstances of the workplace have not been examined carefully enough, he can also issue a temporary ban on employment until the circumstances are clarified. A general prohibition of employment exists in the last 6 weeks before delivery, unless the pregnant woman voluntarily agrees to it. Activities that an expectant mother is not allowed to perform include, for example, lifting heavy loads (over 5 or 10 kg), standing activities for more than 4 hours, activities with increased risk of accidents and piecework.
