Complications

Complications after a discography occur very rarely. Theoretically, secondary bleeding is possible due to the injury of blood vessels in the course of the puncture direction. Injury to a nerve root by the needle is also theoretically possible.

However, due to the anatomical knowledge of the physician and due to the continuous position control of the needle during the puncture, the risk is very low. Despite careful disinfection, the possibility of germs (bacteria) being carried over into the disc space cannot be completely excluded. An unknown contrast medium allergy can, as already mentioned, lead to allergic shock.
