Complications | Po Implants

Complications

As with any surgery, complications can occur with Po augmentation with Po implants. Since the procedure requires a well-founded anatomical knowledge of the buttock region, the procedure should only be performed by specialists. Typical complications that occur specifically for Po augmentation can include numbness in the buttock region, a rupture of the suture (so-called suture dehiscence) with repeated surgical repair, slippage of the implants or capsule fibrosis of the Po implants.

The latter has become very rare, especially during intramuscular insertion of the implants. Nevertheless, during surgery care should be taken not to make the implant pocket too large and mobilization should be started carefully and slowly. General complications that can occur with any surgery are Every possible complication is discussed in detail during a consultation.

  • Bleeding and bruising
  • Infections and wound healing disorders
  • Thromboses and embolisms
  • Scarring and injury to adjacent vessels and nerves.

Scarring

The scarring of Po implants is very small compared to other plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation or abdominoplasty. The suture is usually well hidden in the vertical buttock fold, but under certain circumstances and depending on the size of the implant, it may protrude a few centimeters above the buttock fold. However, the scar only impresses as a very fine and bright line that can be easily concealed by underwear or a bikini.

Aftercare

In order to avoid postoperative complications, it is important to place a lot of emphasis on aftercare. This can help to prevent wound healing disorders and avoid additional costs and hospital stays. Especially in the first weeks, physical rest, abdominal sleep for the first 10 nights and wearing a special girdle are necessary.

This corset is worn for 6-8 weeks and prevents the Po implants from slipping. Sports should also be avoided for the next 6-8 weeks. In order to prevent a pain memory and to make the time after the operation as pleasant as possible for patients, adequate pain treatment plays an important role.

To prevent blood and wound water from collecting in the wound cavity or in the implant pocket, special suction drains are placed to mobilize the wound secretion. These prevent wound healing disorders and accelerate the healing process. The drains can be removed 2-3 days after insertion of the Po implants.
