Contraceptive means

Introduction

If the birth date has already passed or if there are reasons for initiating labor, the contractions can be stimulated by various means. The pregnancy hormone of choice is oxytocin. After consultation with the gynaecologist or midwife, however, food that promotes labor can also achieve the desired effect if the contractions do not yet need to be induced by medication.

These drugs promote contractions

The main drug used to stimulate contractions is the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin is also secreted by the body during the birth process and then has a positive effect on the contractions. The hormone also stimulates milk ejection from the mammary gland after birth and strengthens the mother’s relationship with her child.

You can find more detailed information here: Oxytocin If the birth must be induced externally, oxytocin is administered via a continuous perfuser. The device ensures that a predetermined amount of the hormone can be given continuously through the vein. This then has a strengthening effect on the rhythmic contractions of the uterus.

Another drug that promotes contractions is prostaglandin. It must be given through the vagina for it to work. One advantage of prostaglandin is that it has few side effects on the rest of the body, but the drug is difficult to control, which is why oxytocin is the drug of choice.

The medication is given when the blood flow to the placenta is no longer sufficient to supply the child with sufficient blood. This can happen if the calculated deadline has already been exceeded or if there are diseases such as pregnancy hypertension or pregnancy diabetes. In addition, contractions are induced with medication if there has been a premature rupture of the bladder and no natural contractions occur within 12 to 24 hours.

In homeopathy, there are some preparations known which can potentially promote labour. Before using the globules, however, the benefits and risks should definitely first be discussed with a gynaecologist. In addition, a gynaecologist with experience in homeopathy can give good advice on which preparation can have the best effect in the individual situation. Possible preparations are for example Pulsatilla or Caulophylum.
