Contraindications | Neo Angin®

Contraindications

There are several contraindications for which the use of Neo Angin® is not recommended. Neo Angin® should not be taken if patients are allergic to one of the ingredients. Therefore, in addition to the active ingredients, it is important to know the ingredients that are included in Neo Angin® “for the taste“.

Neo Angin® should not be taken even if you have a fruit sugar (fructose) intolerance. Patients suffering from glucose-galactose malabsorption or a saccharase-isomaltase deficiency must refrain from using Neo Angin®. It is also very important that patients with a known asthmatic condition or other respiratory conditions where the airways are too hypersensitive should not take Neo Angin® as this can lead to a hypersensitivity reaction in which the bronchi contract, resulting in an asthmatic attack with severe shortness of breath.

Furthermore, as there are no studies that have been carried out on children under 2 years of age, pregnant women and nursing mothers that rule out any risk to health, Neo Angin® must not be used on these patients as this could lead to unforeseen reactions. Parents should also consider giving Neo Angin® to children under 6 years of age as the manufacturer does not recommend its use. In addition to the absolute contraindications, there are also certain risk factors associated with Neo Angin®.

The lozenges contain a high amount of sugar in the form of fructose and must therefore be used with caution by patients with diabetes as one tablet contains approximately 0.22 bread units (BE). The spray has the advantage that it can be taken by diabetics without caution and does not contain bread units. In contrast to the lozenge, the spray contains alcohol (ethanol), which is why it should not be used in children and patients with an alcohol problem.

Interactions

Neo Angin® Neck Lozenge Lozenge and Neo Angin® Spray are well-tolerated products which do not interact with other drugs. Neo Angin® and the pill (oral contraceptive) can therefore be taken without any problems and without Neo Angin® affecting the effect of the pill. Nevertheless, patients should remember that although Neo Angin® and the pill can be taken together, if the patient changes to an antibiotic afterwards, this antibiotic can interfere with the pill’s action or cancel it out completely. There are also no known interactions with alcohol or impaired driving, which does not restrict the patient in his or her job or leisure activities. Nevertheless, the patient should always tell the doctor if he or she is taking Neo Angin® because the doctor is informed about any possible interactions or side effects and can act accordingly.
