Contraindications

Wobenzym® must not be taken if there is a hypersensitivity to the active ingredients bromelain, trypsin or rutoside/papain. In addition, Wobenzym® must not be taken if there is a known intolerance to pineapple fruit or if there is an allergy to the pancreatic extract of the pig.

What alternatives are there?

The increase in vitality and immune system support provided by Wobenzym can also be achieved by lifestyle changes, e.g. through sports and healthy eating. The decongestant effect of Wobenzym is also provided by other drugs which act via enzymes, e.g. Bromelain-POS. Karazym, whose active ingredient is also an enzyme, can also be used to treat joint complaints.

Trade names or forms

The drug is available on the market in different versions, for example Wobenzym® N, Wobenzym® Plus, Wobenzym® mono or Wobenzym® PS. Wobenzym® N is administered as an enteric coated tablet. It is particularly recommended for chronic and acute inflammation and circulatory disorders.

In Germany, Wobenzym® N has been withdrawn from the market and replaced by Wobenzym® Plus. Wobenzym® Plus has replaced Wobenzym® N, which was withdrawn from the market in Germany. It is also taken as an enteric coated tablet and is used to treat inflammation (acute and chronic) and circulatory disorders.

The decongestant effect of Wobenzym® Mono is the main focus. It is especially recommended after injuries or operations, especially in the area of the mouth, nose and paranasal sinuses. As Wobenzym® Mono can also have a blood-thinning effect, its use should be discussed with the doctor after an operation.

Wobenzym® PS has the same application range as Wobenzym® N or Plus. However, it contains more active ingredient. The higher dosage may also cause more side effects.

It is therefore not freely available for sale. Wobenzym® Vital contains vitamin C, D and E in addition to the enzymes that are found as active ingredients in all types of wobenzymes. It also contains secondary plant substances, i.e. chemical compounds that plants produce but do not necessarily need for their survival.

The type of secondary plant substances used here is called flavonoids. Wobenzym® vital is primarily intended to support the immune system. Wobenzym® Immun contains not only the enzymes that are found as active ingredients in all types of Wobenzym, but also vitamins C and D, zinc and selenium. This is intended to support and strengthen the immune system in its normal function.
