Copovidone is found as an excipient in drugs, mainly in tablets. Not to be confused with crospovidone.
Structure and properties
Copovidone is a copolymer of 1-ethenylpyrrolidone-2-one and ethenyl acetate in the ratio 3:2 (m/m). It exists as a white to yellowish white hygroscopic powder or as a leaflet and is readily soluble in water.
Indications for use
Copovidone is used, among other things, as a binder and film former, also for production of granules and for direct tabletting.
