Copper Storage Disease (Wilson’s Disease): Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Abdominal ultrasonography (ultrasound examination of abdominal organs) – for basic diagnosis [fatty liver?, fibrotic remodeling?, liver cirrhosis?]
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG; recording of the electrical activity of the heart muscle).
  • Computed tomography of the skull (cranial CT, cranial CT or cCT) – for further diagnostics.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging of the skull (cranial MRI, cranial MRI or cMRI) – for follow-up in advanced stages [atrophy, focal pathology v. a. of the basal ganglia; copper accumulation].
  • Electrophysiological diagnostics (electroencephalography, evoked potentials) – can be used in the context of follow-up.
