Cortisone ointment and sun

When using cortisone ointment, sun should be avoided if possible. Together with UV radiation, the active ingredient can cause irritation and pigmentation of the skin. In some cases, including sunburn, cortisone preparations are also recommended.

Especially products containing hydrocortisone are recommended. These have anti-inflammatory effects. Sunburn heals faster and the active agent has a cooling effect. However, cortisone ointments should be avoided as they block the skin and lead to a kind of heat accumulation. In cases of sunburn, gel or cream preparations with cortisone are recommended.

Cortisone ointment after tattoo

As a rule, ointments containing cortisone are not recommended after a tattoo. Since these inhibit the healing process. Normally, antiseptically acting substances such as the active ingredient chlorhexidine are recommended.

This can be found in the commercial preparation Bepanthen® for example. In individual cases, the use of certain cortisone ointments may be appropriate in the short term. If inflammations, allergies, swelling of lymph nodes or nodules on the skin occur, a doctor should be consulted.
