Cost of treatment | Reduce labia minora

Cost of treatment

The price for a labia reduction depends strongly on the treating doctor and the respective clinic, as well as on the individual initial findings and the treatment to be performed. The prices can differ by more than 1000 Euro. Thus, the lowest costs are around 600 Euro, the highest around 3000 Euro.

Usually it is a calculation based on all costs incurred, which includes the costs for anesthesia and postoperative pain medication. A decision on whether the costs will be covered by private or statutory health insurance will be made on a case-by-case basis. Various relevant factors are taken into account in the decision-making process.

These include restrictions in hygiene, recurrent infections in the genital area, consequences for the psyche and complaints during sexual intercourse. If an operation is being considered, the application for reimbursement must be made before it is performed. The Medical Service of the Health Insurance Funds (MdK) is dedicated to its review. Before the operation is performed, the decision should be awaited.

Risks of the operation

A surgical labia reduction involves the general risk of surgery. The induced wound is associated with a higher probability of infections, such as cystitis. If pain occurs during urination, the doctor treating the patient should be consulted.

Bleeding is also one of the post-operative risks. As a rule, these are small vessels whose closure is immediately brought about by a miracle opening and sealing. Signs of bleeding requiring treatment include rapid swelling and prolonged dripping of blood.

Bruises are also among the general operative side effects. In a minority of cases, excessive scarring occurs. In the first period after the operation, disturbances of sensation or pain during sexual intercourse are possible, which should disappear as part of complete wound healing.

Also immediately after the surgery, problems with urination are sometimes observed, which are not always due to an infection. These include swelling or reflex mechanisms. Pain due to nerve irritation or cramps in the area of the urinary tract can be treated by the physician.
