Costs | Dental neck caries

Costs

The costs vary depending on the filling material and size of the filling. For fillings in the anterior region, health insurance companies even pay for a composite filling. From the 4th tooth onwards, i.e. the 1st small molar tooth, a co-payment must be made for a composite filling.Cervical fillings can also vary in their extension.

Rarely it is only a single-surface filling. In most cases the defect still extends towards the interdental space, which leads to a multi-surface filling therapy. This is of course more expensive than if only one surface has to be restored.

The costs for a triple-surface filling can range between 60 and 150 €. This depends entirely on the dentist treating the patient. If the neck of the tooth filling becomes insufficient within 2 years, i.e. it has to be renewed, this is a case for the health insurance company. The repeated filling is usually covered by them.

Pain during a cervical filling

As with any dental procedure, pain can occur. During the treatment these can be largely eliminated by local anesthetics. After the treatment, pain may also occur that may not have existed before.

Any grinding of a tooth can irritate the dental nerve, but this is temporary. In addition, the gums can be easily damaged, especially in the case of cervical fillings, but these are completely regenerated, i.e. healed, after a few days. In the case of very deep fillings it may be necessary to place some kind of underfilling or medication under the filling material. These are often somewhat acidic in their pH value, which could cause the tooth to react sensitively. In this case, you should avoid extremely hot and very cold food for a few days after a neck filling.

How can I treat cervical caries myself?

Even few dentists admit that sometimes a caries can also calm down again. This means that it is not necessary to drill every smallest spot directly. However, it is also difficult to say that one has to leave these places like this and wait and see what happens.

Once the cervical caries is left and placed under observation, one can try to contain the caries by thorough cleaning. Nowadays there are many sweeteners available as an alternative to sugar, for example xylitol, which also inhibits the caries bacteria. Caries is more likely to occur on exposed tooth necks, since there is no hard enamel but the softer root cement.

This can be strengthened with local fluoridation measures and made less vulnerable, for example with mouthwashes and fluoride varnishes. Some patients resort to homeopathic remedies. For additional treatment, alternative products such as brine toothpaste, comfrey root, coral or eggshell lime or the like are possible.

However, there are no studies that prove that these alternative methods are really successful.
