Costs for fixed braces for adults

From the age of 18, any type of orthodontic treatment is considered a private service. Health insurance companies only cover orthodontic treatment if a certain degree of severity of the tooth and jaw malposition is reached. In addition, a surgical operation must be planned in combination with the orthodontic procedure.

The costs then again vary according to the duration of the therapy, depending on the type of braces chosen. Often adults only wish for a rough adjustment of the teeth in the dental arch. Minor aesthetic defects must be corrected in the fine adjustment. This would take even longer and also more would make a significant difference in price. Accordingly, the costs can vary between 1500 Euro for a small correction, or up to 15000 Euro for an all-round treatment in both jaws.

Costs for loose braces

Even with loose braces there are differences. There are many different braces, which require more or less effort in the production. The price changes accordingly.

Depending on which form of therapy is chosen, the health insurance company will cover part or even all of the treatment costs. The so-called allowance covers the costs of loose braces if it is medically justified and there is a need for treatment. However, only the costs of basic treatment are reimbursed. If modern tests or equipment are added, these must be paid for privately. In most cases, loose braces are followed by an additional therapy with a fixed multi-bracket appliance, so that the costs for the loose braces can be charged as pre-treatment.

Costs for an internally attached brace

Braces according to lingual technique are very costly compared to the conventional multi bracket appliance. Each individual bracket must be modelled and cast by the dental technician to fit exactly. In addition, special wires are used nowadays to achieve a better result.

These wires are more expensive than the simple ones. After the treatment with lingual braces, you usually need transparent plastic splints, because the fine adjustment of the teeth by means of fixed appliances is not precise enough. Each of these splints costs about 200-400 Euro. The total cost of a lingual brace is about 8000 to 16000 Euro due to the high laboratory costs.
