Costs
The costs of an MRI examination of the back depend primarily on what and how much of the back or spine is to be imaged: the spine and thus also the imaging in the MRI is divided into the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine regions (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), in some cases the imaging of the shoulder region can also be counted as part of a back imaging. Depending on the question and symptoms of the affected patient, individual sections can be displayed by means of an MRI examination. However, if imaging of the entire back (i.e. all spinal sections) is necessary, individual examinations of the various spinal sections are usually also performed in this case to achieve better image quality (an overall view of the spine is still possible with lower detail resolution).
Accordingly, the costs for a back MRI are made up of the costs for the individual examination of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and possibly shoulder sections. In general, the costs differ between private patients/self-payers and SHI patients. Additional costs, in addition to the pure MRI costs, can possibly arise from a consultation prior to the examination, from the necessary administration of contrast medium or additional images in special layers.
