Costs of Lasik – OP

General

Lasik is a surgical therapy option to treat defective vision. It is the most common procedure to correct defective vision with a laser. The Lasik operation can be performed with different methods and equipment.

For example, a laser can be used to correct this refractive error, which can make the wearing of glasses or contact lenses unnecessary. In recent years, the performance of Lasik surgery has spread and developed at many different locations around the world. This also means that the costs of the procedure have decreased significantly over time.

The amount of the costs also depends on the individual provider. There are large regional and national differences in costs. In general, facilities in urban areas tend to be cheaper than facilities in locations where there are fewer possibilities to have a Lasik operation performed. In addition to private providers, Lasik surgeries are also performed at some university hospitals, for example.

Costs

It is not possible to give a generally valid price, as it depends on several factors. Thus, the provider who performs the surgery, the individual medical history and the type of procedure can have an influence on the individual costs of the surgery. The costs for Lasik in Germany are about 2000 Euro per eye, although, as mentioned above, this is subject to strong fluctuations.

Up to about 5000 Euro or even only about 1000 Euro per eye can be charged for Lasik. The prices for Lasik surgery abroad are often lower, however, sufficient experience and standards should be ensured. The public health insurance companies do not cover the costs of Lasik at present.

Since both eyes are usually affected by a refractive error and are therefore also operated on, the costs are usually twice the amount. With most providers who perform Lasik surgery, it is possible to draw up a financing plan that can be used to pay off the costs incurred. In any case, the costs incurred should be explained in an individual consultation.

In addition to the costs of the operation, other costs may also be incurred. Thus, certain additional examinations are recommended before the Lasik surgery is performed. It should be ensured that these examinations are included in the indicated price.

These include, for example, the measurement of eye pressure and corneal thickness. It is also important to remember that travel expenses incurred due to the distance of the clinic from the place of residence are included. Especially when performing the operation abroad, this should be taken into account. Since clarification discussions must take place in addition to the actual operation, a single visit is usually not sufficient. Depending on how far away the institution is, a high amount of travel expenses may be incurred.
