Costs | Removal of the sebaceous glands

Costs

The cost of sebaceous gland removal varies depending on the effort and method used. A surgical removal of a sebaceous gland costs on average about 90 to 100 Euros. If several sebaceous glands are removed, the costs also increase.

A laser treatment is also within the same price range. The costs for a fruit acid peeling of the skin amount to about 40 to 60 Euros per session. Anyone who is frequently prone to congested sebaceous glands will benefit from regular peelings.

Health insurance companies do not always cover the costs of sebaceous gland removal. The costs are covered if there is a medical indication. This means that the doctor can certify a medical necessity for the removal of the sebaceous gland.

This is the case, for example, if a malignant change in the sebaceous gland is suspected or if there is an inflammation that cannot be treated in any other way. Purely cosmetic reasons can rarely be successfully claimed with the health insurance company. In this case, you should inform yourself in advance about cost coverage with your own health insurance company.

So-called trichilemmal cysts are often found on the scalp. These sebaceous gland cysts are often found in groups on the scalp and do not cause any complaints. They are filled with hard contents and look like small skin nodules.

Trichilemmal cysts are usually not painful and not inflammatory. However, for many people they are a cosmetic problem. In case of complaints or if desired, the cysts can be removed surgically.

Sebaceous glands are also present on the nipples. The so-called Montgomery glands are particularly visible during erection of the nipple. They are large sebaceous glands which are arranged in a circle around the nipple in the areola.

Montgomery’s glands are completely normal and are expressed differently in each woman. They do not have to be removed, and should not be, as they are very important, especially for breastfeeding. Only very rarely are the sebaceous glands inflamed or clogged.

Even then they do not have to be removed in every case. In the end, only a specialist can judge whether removal is necessary. In this case you should consult a gynecologist.

In the intimate area there are particularly many sebaceous glands. This is quite normal. However, many people find visible or enlarged sebaceous glands in this area unaesthetic.

Healthy sebaceous glands cannot and should not be removed. They produce the protective sebum that is particularly important for the sensitive skin of the intimate area. Inflamed sebaceous glands or greatly enlarged sebaceous glands can, however, be removed.
