Cough without a cold

If coughing occurs without a cold, there are several reasons for this. First of all, it does not always have to be something serious, it can be a chesty cough for example. This is caused by a specific trigger and can be avoided after investigating the cause.

However, if the cough persists for a longer period of time, a medical clarification is recommended. There are various diseases of the respiratory tract that can lead to coughing without being associated with a cold. These should be clarified accordingly.

In addition to cough drops, there are also various forms of cough syrup that can be used for coughing. Here too, a consultation at the pharmacy is recommended in order to find the optimal preparation for the respective complaints. One possible preparation is Mucosolvan®, which not only relieves coughs but also has an expectorant effect, thus helping to cleanse the airways. Bronchostop® is also a cough syrup made of purely vegetable ingredients that can alleviate the irritation of the cough.

Coughing with sputum

If there is a cough with sputum, this is usually an indication of an inflammatory process in the airways. The body cells and glands of the respiratory tract produce mucus to remove existing germs from the airways. Coughing with sputum is common in the case of a cold or flu, but can also occur in cases of serious inflammation, such as pneumonia. A doctor should be consulted if pain and discomfort persist for several days. If other sputum, such as blood, is involved, a medical examination should be carried out as soon as possible.

Cough in children

Coughing in children is not always a cause for concern. This too is often a common cold. In children, various herbal preparations, such as those made from thyme or ivy, can be used to relieve the cough.

A consultation can also be made at the pharmacy to find the optimal preparation. If the cough lasts longer or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as pain, a medical examination should be carried out by a pediatrician as soon as possible. If there is shortness of breath, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
