Course of disease | Dizziness when bending

Course of disease

The course of dizziness when bending depends on the underlying cause. In most cases, the course is quite mild, since the dizziness is rarely so severe that it severely restricts the affected person in his or her daily life. Often the benign positioning vertigo is the underlying cause of the dizziness that occurs when bending down. In most cases, this disorder of the vestibular organ can be eliminated with simple positioning maneuvers. Thus, the course of the disease is accordingly uncomplicated and short.

Diagnosis

Various components are important for diagnosing dizziness when bending down. During the medical history, i.e. the doctor-patient consultation, the exact circumstances under which the dizziness occurs can be clarified. This is very important, as the cause varies depending on whether the dizziness actually occurs when bending down or perhaps even when standing up. Depending on the suspicion of the underlying cause, further examinations can be helpful. For example, an examination of the vestibular organ with some tests, as well as a long-term measurement of the blood pressure are possible.

Duration and prognosis

If dizziness occurs when bending down, the duration of the symptom depends on the triggering cause. The dizziness attack itself usually lasts from seconds to minutes and then subsides. The most common cause of dizziness when bending down is benign positioning vertigo, which can be treated quite easily and quickly.

Accordingly, the duration is usually a few weeks and the prognosis is extremely favorable. The probability of recurrence of benign positional vertigo may increase, but this is not too dangerous in view of the good treatability.
