Craniomandibular Dysfunction: Dental Therapy

Grinding-in procedures

Sources of interference on individual teeth can be removed by targeted grinding-in. It is important to ensure that no new sources of interference are created.

Fillings or crowns that are too high can also be ground in. These measures are not reversible. More tooth structure should never be removed than absolutely necessary.

Dentures

Ill-fitting dentures always lead to change and adaptation reactions.

However, wear of the occlusal surfaces and the recession of the jawbone also lead to adjustment reactions. These adaptations often bring about muscle tension and pain, which, however, only occur after a longer period of time. In this case, it is necessary to readjust the prosthesis, reline it if necessary, or even replace it

Bite splints

Bite splints work in different ways and provide relief in case of pain, tension or other problems.

The splint harmonizes the chewing plane. The loads are evenly distributed so that no overloading of individual muscles or muscle groups can occur, as is often the case, for example, with grinding or pressing.

The abrasion of the tooth structure that occurs with parafunctions is also prevented, and the teeth are protected.
