Dexbrompheniramine was included in combination with pseudoephedrine in sustained-release dragées. It was approved in many countries in 1974. Disofrol is out of commerce.

Structure and properties

Dexbromopheniramine (C16H19BrN2, Mr = 319.2 g/mol) is an enantiomer of brompheniramine. Brompheniramine is brominated pheniramine, which is present in many countries in combination with other active ingredients in Neo Citran. The racemate brompheniramine is no longer commercially available.

Effects

Dexbrompheniramine (ATC R01BA52) is antihistamine and antiallergic.

Indications

In combination with pseudoephedrine: All upper respiratory tract conditions associated with inflammatory hypersecretory swelling of the mucous membranes, whether based on an allergic reaction or a trivial infection: the various forms of rhinitis (such as common cold, including pollen-allergic and nonseasonal allergic rhinopathies), rhinosinusitis, sinusitis, obstruction of the eustachian tube
