Diabetic Foot: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of diabetic foot.

Family history

  • Is there frequent diabetes mellitus (diabetes) in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Are you experiencing pain? If yes, when does the pain occur?
  • Where is the pain localized?
  • What is the character of the pain? Burning, stabbing, dull?
  • Are both legs/feet equally affected?
  • When does the pain occur? At rest or rather during exertion?
  • Have you noticed any altered perception of pain or sensation of discomfort in the legs/feet?
  • Do you often have pressure points due to incorrect footwear?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you suffer from sleep disorders?

Self history incl. medication history.
