Diabetic Nephropathy: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy.

Family history

  • Do you have a family history of common conditions such as diabetes mellitus or kidney disease?

Social history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long have you had diabetes mellitus (diabetes)?
  • Have you noticed water retention in the tissues?
  • Do you have any other sequelae of diabetes such as visual disturbances or sensory disturbances?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Have you noticed any changes in urination?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars, or pipes per day?

Self history including medication history.
