Diabetic Retinopathy: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.

Family History

  • Are there any diseases (diabetes mellitus, ocular diseases) in your family that are common?

Social history

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • Do you suffer from blurred/distorted vision?
  • Have you noticed any black spots in your field of vision?
  • Have you experienced a sudden loss of visual field or complete loss of vision?* .

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
