Diagnosis | Back bump

Diagnosis

As with any diagnosis, the procedure for a bump on the back initially consists of an anamnesis (conversation with the affected person) and a physical examination. Causes such as contusions, bruises and sebaceous gland congestion can usually be diagnosed solely on the basis of the conversation and the examination. In the case of unclear bumps, imaging such as X-ray, CT, MRT or ultrasound helps. If a malignant tumour is suspected, a biopsy (tissue sample) should be taken and examined under a microscope.

Duration

The duration of a bump on the back varies greatly. After a few days to a few weeks, bumps due to bruises, bruises and sebaceous gland congestion should have disappeared. Abscesses usually last longer and may have to be removed surgically.

Benign and malignant soft tissue tumours are also usually present until they have been removed by surgery. While malignant tumours should be treated very quickly, benign tumours can be tolerated for months or even years.
