Diagnosis | Eyelashes fall out – What to do?

Diagnosis

Most patients notice that their eyelashes fall out themselves and consult their doctor. A distinction is made between a sudden loss of all eyelashes and a loss that takes some time. In the anamnesis (= patient interview) your doctor will try to find out.

In addition, the ophthalmologist can take a closer look at the eyelashes with a magnifying glass and assess the condition, structure and distances between the individual eyelashes. If the loss of lashes is more likely caused by a lack of vitamins and minerals, the doctor will probably see more thin, weak lashes. If the loss of lashes is the result of radiation or chemotherapy, for example, all the lashes often fall out at once.
