Diagnosis | Herpes Simplex

Diagnosis

For the diagnosis of a herpes simplex infection, a clinical view is usually sufficient. In severe cases, or if the internal organs are also affected, a herpes infection can be detected by appropriate immunological methods.

Treatment

The treatment is carried out with so-called antivirals, which inhibit the further reproduction of the virus. Aciclovir is used for herpes simplex infections. In weak infections it can be applied locally, e.g.

as an ointment, in severe cases or when complications occur it must be given systemically (e.g. as an infusion). However, what no drug can do to date is to fight the viruses in their permanent form in the nerve cells.
