Diagnosis | Lipomatosis

Diagnosis

As it is a rare disease, the diagnosis of lipomatosis is made by specialists. The most important indication is the rapidly growing fat deposits, usually with unusual distribution. For example, in the case of type I lipomatosis with fatty tissue on the neck and head, it quickly becomes clear that this is an unphysiological picture, whereas the abdominal-pelvic type is only recognized as lipomatosis at a relatively late stage. The most important measure in the diagnosis of lipomatosis is a tissue sample taken and examined under a microscope. A histologist or pathologist can make the diagnosis using this method.

Therapy

The naturopathy holds the thesis that a lipoma is formed by a disturbed degradation of metabolic products. To promote the removal of metabolic waste products, alternative doctors recommend treatment with Bach flowers and medicinal plants. In addition, a fasting cure to purify and deacidify the body can have a positive effect on lipomatosis and lead to the regression of the tumors.

Lipomatosis and alcohol – What is the connection?

Alcohol is converted to acetate in the liver and used by the body as a source of energy. In addition to providing energy, alcohol consumption also causes the body to reduce fat burning and store fat. Regular and excessive consumption of alcohol is considered a risk factor for the development of lipomas and a strict abstinence from alcohol can possibly improve severe lipomatosis.

Prognosis

Lipomatosis is a chronic progressive disease. In most cases, the growth of fatty tissue progresses more and more, but initially faster and then slower as the disease progresses. In some cases, a standstill of lipomatosis has been observed, especially when accompanying risk factors such as alcohol consumption in particular have been reduced or eliminated. The extent of lipomatosis can be controlled by regular interventions, although one must always be aware of the general risks of surgery, such as infection or post-operative bleeding. On the other hand, it can also happen that after surgery, the increase in fat tissue increases exponentially.
