Diagnosis of testicular swelling

The diagnosis of testicular swelling depends on the cause. For some causal diseases the diagnosis can be made very quickly on the basis of the typical symptoms. The first step is a conversation with the doctor and an examination of the testicle.

To differentiate the different causes, urine cultures are made, which give information about pathogens causing inflammation. In addition, an ultrasound of the testicle is often performed. Here, especially a twisted testicle can be excluded, which is important, since this disease is associated with many risks.

If testicular cancer is suspected, a blood test is carried out to take values that may indicate testicular cancer. In addition, in the case of testicular cancer, a CT scan is performed to determine whether the tumor has already spread to lymph nodes.
