Diagnosis | Osteochondrosis in the cervical spine – help from physiotherapy

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is made by taking a medical history, a physical examination and an X-ray. The x-ray shows that the base and cover plates of the vertebral bodies have collapsed and are sclerosed (ossified). Bony attachments can be seen and the reduction in height of the intervertebral discs becomes clear. Mostly the wear is one-sided and a deformation of the vertebral body can be seen in the x-ray. If the findings are unclear, an MRT can be consulted.

Prognosis

The prognosis for osteochondrosis intervertebralis is not favorable due to its progressive course.Although its symptoms can be treated well and in the long term by exercises and medication, if pain resistant to therapy occurs, a stabilizing operation may be necessary. A healing of the changed structures is not possible. A long-term and regular performance of the exercises is just as important as a conscious correction of posture in everyday life!
