Diagnosis | Pain in the iliac crest

Diagnosis

In order to achieve rapid relief of the symptoms, the usual painkillers can generally be used first in the case of pain in the iliac crest. But even simple household remedies are usually sufficient as initial measures. In the case of inflammatory causes, a cold application, e.g. with cool packs, often helps, whereas in the case of muscular problems, warmth usually leads to a significant improvement of the complaints.

Nevertheless, the cause should always be treated, even after the acute symptoms have subsided. In the case of muscular problems, physiotherapy exercises and movement training are usually the therapy of choice. These help to achieve an even load on the muscles and prevent malpositions. If the pain is caused by a pelvic obliquity, e.g. a difference in leg length, insoles can help to compensate for this and improve the symptoms. Inflammatory diseases, on the other hand, must usually be treated with medication to prevent long-term damage.

Duration

It is very difficult to make statements about the duration of the complaints. One reason for this is the variety of possible causes. On the other hand, the very personal circumstances of each patient, his or her physical constitution and possible concomitant diseases also contribute significantly to the course of treatment. However, your doctor or therapist can often give you information about an approximate time frame after an exact diagnosis has been made.
