Diagnostics

Pain in the right arm can usually be differentiated and diagnosed more precisely on the basis of the medical history, i.e. the doctor-patient conversation. It is important that the patient describes and characterizes the pain he/she feels in the right arm exactly and also states where exactly the pain is located (rather in the area of the elbow, rather after sports in the area of the upper arm. In addition to the current pain in the right arm, accompanying symptoms should also be discussed.

For example, digestive problems could indicate that the gallbladder cannot produce enough bile to absorb the fats in our food. If the pain in the area of the joint occurs in young patients, this indicates a possible arthritis. In this case, blood should always be drawn as there is an increase in inflammatory parameters and specific antibodies can usually be detected.

If the pain is caused by a fall on the arm, an x-ray should always be taken to rule out a fracture.Depending on the cause of the pain in the right arm, there are different treatment options. In the case of a simple muscle ache, it helps to spare the arm for a longer period of time and to warm it up with the help of a hot water bottle, if necessary, because the muscles can relax a little. In case of a tendosynovitis it is very important to take care of the affected muscles sufficiently and, if necessary, to force an immobilization by bandages, otherwise it can lead to permanent problems.

Often additional anti-inflammatory ointments or ointments that can slightly reduce the pain help. Nevertheless, it is important not to apply the ointment simply and then continue as usual. A tendon sheath inflammation must be cured, otherwise it can lead to a chronic inflammation.

In older patients suffering from arthrosis, it is particularly important that the patients are able to put normal weight on the joint again without pain. In addition, a further wear and tear of the joint should be avoided and the existing problem should not be aggravated further. Especially for older patients, however, only one operation can help, so that the patient can once again move the joint painlessly and normally without being restricted by the joint wear and tear.

If arthritis occurs in young people, cooling the joints and immobilizing the joint often helps in the early stages. Often, however, the affected patients must take additional pain medication (especially in the acute phase) and take anti-inflammatory mediators such as glucocorticoids. In addition, the patient should always receive occupational and physiotherapy to keep his joints mobile despite limitations and not to aggravate the existing symptoms.

In worse cases, surgery should also be considered. If there is pain in the right arm due to a rupture of the muscle fibre, it is important to spare the arm and to keep it still. Any kind of strenuous activity should be avoided, including writing for right-handed people.

Patients should also cool the arm to relieve pain in the right arm due to a ruptured muscle fibre and prevent blood from flowing out of the blood vessels. In case of a rupture in the right arm or a degenerative cervical vertebrae disease, which then leads to pain in the right arm, a doctor should always be consulted, since in both cases it is often an indication for surgery. If the patient has sudden pain in the area of the right upper arm due to a heart attack, he must always be taken immediately to hospital for intensive medical care.
