Disinfecting salicylic spirit is not commercially available as a finished drug product and is therefore manufactured in pharmacies or by specialized suppliers. There also exists a salicylic spirit without the antiseptic additives, see under salicylic spirit.
Composition and production

| Ethanol 96% | 64.4 g |
| Purified water | 31.0 g |
| Benzalkonium chloride | 0.1 g |
| Chlorhexidine gluconate solution 20% | 2.5 g |
- Salicylic acid is dissolved in ethanol (solution A).
- The benzalkonium chloride is dissolved in purified water (solution B).
- The chlorhexidine gluconate solution is mixed with solution B.
- Add solution A.
Effects
The drug has antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, cleansing and keratolytic properties.
Indications for use
For external treatment of skin diseases, e.g. acne and infected eczema.
Dosage
According to the prescription. The drug is applied externally to the affected skin areas after cleaning.
Contraindications
A complete list of precautions is not available.
Adverse effects
Possible adverse effects include hypersensitivity reactions and local skin reactions.
