Disorders of Vestibular Function: Test and Diagnosis

2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Small blood count [anemia/anemia?; MCV ↑ → indication of alcohol abuse/abuse, if any].
  • Ferritin serum level (iron stores) – if iron deficiency anemia is suspected.
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
  • Urine status (rapid test for: glucose).
  • Fasting glucose (fasting blood glucose)
  • Syphilis serology – if syphilis (lues; venereal disease) is suspected.
  • CSF puncture (collection of cerebrospinal fluid by puncture of the spinal canal) for CSF diagnosis – in suspected cases of multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • Blood gas analysis (BGA)
  • CO hemoglobin (synonyms: CO-Hb, carboxyhemoglobin, carbon monoxide hemoglobin) – due topossible carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Mercury (due topossible intoxication).
  • Tetrachloromethane (due topossible intoxication).
