Dizziness and fatigue

Definition

Dizziness with fatigue is the name given to two symptoms that can occur together and are often mutually dependent. The cause is often a combination of many factors, such as lack of sleep and stress. However, there are also various diseases that can be considered as causes.

These include, for example, an anaemia or a functional disorder of the thyroid gland, as well as tension in the area of the upper spine. Often the symptoms are not taken seriously by people in the surrounding area, but for those affected they mean a severe restriction of the quality of life and daily routine, both at work and in private life. Finding a diagnosis is not easy for the doctor either, and so patients are often referred to various specialist disciplines. Below are some common causes and diseases that can lead to a combination of dizziness and fatigue.

Causes

There are many different causes for the occurrence of dizziness and fatigue. Often it is a combination of different factors that together promote the symptoms. For many of those affected, stress and lack of sleep are one reason for the occurrence of dizziness and fatigue.

Too little exercise, a lack of fresh air and an unbalanced diet can also promote these symptoms. An acutely low blood sugar level is also a possible cause. However, various diseases, such as a functional disorder of the thyroid gland or anemia, can also manifest themselves through dizziness and fatigue. Certain respiratory disorders during sleep, as well as some medications can also lead to dizziness and tiredness. Depression or other psychological problems may also be possible causes.

What role does the thyroid gland play?

A thyroid disease can manifest itself through various symptoms. These often include a feeling of exhaustion, accompanied by tiredness, as well as dizziness and headaches. The cause can be either over- or under-functioning of the thyroid gland.

The hormones of the thyroid gland play a role in various processes in the body. An imbalance becomes noticeable by very different symptoms. Frequently there are additional symptoms such as restlessness, weight changes, sweating and an acceleration of the heartbeat, which some people perceive as tachycardia.
