What is a vertigo outpatient clinic?
A vertigo outpatient clinic is a special consultation hour that some practices and clinics offer. Patients with vertigo symptoms are examined and treated. It does not matter whether the dizziness is permanent or only occurs in attacks, i.e. what type of dizziness is involved.
Since the symptom dizziness can have many different and complex causes, these special outpatient clinics have been established, since an adequate clarification of the dizziness symptoms (see: Diagnosis of dizziness) in normal clinical routine was and is only possible to a limited extent. In the outpatient clinic, there is sufficient time to first have a more detailed discussion between the doctor and the person affected. The main focus is on finding the focus of the dizziness.
Among other things, it is important to determine when the dizziness occurs, the duration of the attacks, how the dizziness feels and whether everyday tasks need to be interrupted. Accompanying symptoms, such as dizziness with nausea, vomiting or a tendency to fall are also clarified. In addition, a detailed neurological examination and an examination of the eyes and ears are also carried out, as these can lead to the symptom dizziness, either alone or in combination.
There are special apparatuses available, with the help of which, for example, the organ of equilibrium in the ear can be examined and which contribute to a precise diagnosis of the dizziness. The surveys and examinations used are tailored to the patient and can also be carried out without any problems in older people. The examinations are also beneficial for patients who experience dizziness in certain situations or during certain body movements, but not necessarily at the time of the visit to the doctor. Furthermore, the examinations and their results are used in many clinics for research purposes, in order to be able to offer even better and more precise diagnostics and therapy in the future. Patients are, however, informed in more detail and do not draw any disadvantages from this.
