Do punishments help in education?

Punishments are very popular and often used in education. In most cases, it is not a punishment in the form of physical violence, but rather psychological, such as withdrawal of love, additional tasks or compensation. The punishments can lead to the desired behavioral goal if certain things are observed.

The wrong behaviour should be in a logical and temporal context with the punishment. Furthermore, the punishment should be proportionate and not arbitrary, but announced. All in all, punishments should be an exception and in no case should they be used on babies or toddlers, since they cannot understand them at all and are thus only weakened in their self-confidence.

In addition, the positive and trusting relationship between parents and children can be damaged by punishment, as the child can be offended, hate defiance and insecurity can arise. In a defiance reaction, the unwanted behavior that led to the punishment is not discarded but rather shown in a stronger way. Correspondingly, punishment can be counterproductive and not very conducive in child rearing.

What is the educational benefit?

The education allowance was a state benefit paid to mothers or fathers who temporarily give up their jobs to raise their children. In 2007, the parental allowance was introduced and replaced the education allowance. Only in Bavaria and Saxony is the so-called state education allowance paid as financial support. The parental allowance is intended to relieve the family financially if they want to dedicate more time to the family instead of work and is also paid by the state.

Instead of a lump sum as with the education money the applicants receive with the parents money a percentage portion of that, which they earned before the birth of their child. Accordingly, the parental allowance is calculated individually for each household in a range of at least 300 and at most 1,800 euros per month and child. This money is paid for a maximum of 14 months compared to the parental allowance and only if at least two months of this time are taken up by the partner, so that fathers are also to be more involved in the care and upbringing of the child. Prerequisite to receive parental allowance is that you care for and raise the child yourself, live together with the child in one household, are resident in Germany and do not work at all or work a maximum of 30 hours per week during this time.
