DOM is one of the banned narcotics in many countries. It was developed in the 1960s by Alexander Shulgin. It is also referred to as “STP,” an acronym for Serenity, Tranquility, and Peace.
Structure and properties
DOM, or 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine (C12H19NO2, Mr = 209.3 g/mol) is a methoxy and methyl derivative of amphetamine. It is usually present as a racemate.
Effects
DOM has hallucinogenic properties. The effects are due to interaction with serotonin receptors, particularly agonism at the 5-HT2A receptor.
Abuse
DOM is abused as a hallucinogenic intoxicant. It is not recommended due to the potential health risks.
Dosage
DOM is usually taken perorally.
