Don’t Go Swimming after Dinner?

Everyone knows the rule after eating, especially after a sumptuous meal, to take a break of two hours before taking the plunge into the cold water. If you skip it, stomach cramps and subsequent drowning death are said to occur. This advice is not true. You don’t need to do any scientific research to disprove this, because if you jog after eating, you don’t faint right away. There is no connection between eating, stomach cramps and swimming.

The fact is.

That the body becomes tired and sluggish after a sumptuous meal. The reason for this is the undersupply of blood to the brain and the rest of the body. Indeed, a large part of the blood is needed in the digestive tract.

But after a fatty and substantial meal, no one feels a desire to exercise anyway. So the body is not prone to cramps after the meal but only less efficient.

Caution

The exception: in people with cardiovascular problems and especially the elderly, the double burden on the body can actually lead to collapse. So the bottom line is use common sense when it comes to swimming after eating.

Conclusion

However, it’s less important to worry about possible stomach cramps from overeating than it is to worry about the biggest dangers of swimming, namely overconfidence and recklessness.
