Dosage and intake | CoAprovel

Dosage and intake

CoAprovel® is swallowed as a tablet once a day. These tablets usually contain 150 or 300 mg irbesartan and 12.5 or 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide. Depending on the reason for the intake and the severity of the symptoms, the required dose may vary, but higher doses than 300mg/25mg are not recommended.

The most common reason for prescribing CoAprovel® is high blood pressure. It should be noted that the antihypertensive effect of CoAprovel® does not start immediately after you start taking it. It can take days to weeks before a measurable reduction is achieved.

Risks and side effects

In addition to the above mentioned side effects of the ingredients, CoAprovel®, like most drugs, can also trigger an allergic reaction, which can manifest itself with a wide range of changes – from itching to extensive swelling and fainting. If such symptoms occur, CoAprovel® should be discontinued. If blood pressure is lowered too quickly with CoAprovel® or reaches too low a level as a result of the therapy, dizziness and other symptoms such as tiredness and listlessness may occur, especially when getting up.

CoAprovel® can interact with numerous other drugs. For example, anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen can weaken the antihypertensive effect of CoAprovel® , while alcohol can increase its effect. Since irbesartan should not be taken during the last 2/3 of pregnancy, women who wish to have children should switch their therapy from CoAprovel® to other antihypertensive drugs. Taking CoAprovel® while breastfeeding is also not recommended as it can enter the breast milk and thus the child’s circulation.
