Dosage | Bepanthen® Antiseptic wound cream

Dosage

The antiseptic wound cream should be spread quite thinly in the wound area. The treatment usually lasts about one to two weeks. Apply the wound cream twice a day during this period. If there is still no improvement after a few days, consult your doctor or pharmacist to obtain an alternative if necessary.

The AVP (pharmacy retail price) for the 20 gram tube of Bepanthen® antiseptic wound cream is 5.88€. If you have received a prescription for the wound cream from your doctor, the co-payment to be made by you is 5.00€, unless you are exempt from the co-payment – in which case the antiseptic wound cream is free of charge for you on presentation of the prescription.

Special application areas

Due to its good skin compatibility, the antiseptic wound cream of Bepanthen® can be used at any age, including for babies. With regard to application and dosage, the same rules apply as for children or adults. However, check the wound area regularly to be able to detect the occasional skin irritation and allergic reactions early on.

It is also advisable to cover the wound with a bandage or plaster after applying the wound cream so that the wound cream cannot get into the baby’s mouth either by direct licking or by licking the fingers. Basically the antiseptic wound cream of Bepanthen® is suitable for application on fresh tattoos. However, experts repeatedly point out that the risk of inflammation is relatively low if the tattoo is done hygienically and properly and therefore no antiseptic wound creams are necessary.

Discuss this with your tattoo artist and preferably also with a dermatologist beforehand. It is often recommended to use ointments containing dexpanthenol without antiseptic effect, such as Bepanthen® Wound and healing ointment or Pegasus tattoo cream. Also for the care of fresh piercings the antiseptic wound cream of Bepanthen® is well suited.

The contained fat guarantees a good penetration of the antiseptic wound cream into the canaliculus of the piercing. As a piercing penetrates deeper than a tattoo the antiseptic active component is very useful here, a pure dexpanthenol ointment like Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment is not sufficient. If your piercing is a piercing in the mouth or nose area, the antiseptic wound cream of Bepanthen® is not suitable because of its irritating effect on mucous membranes. Here better suitable ointments or sprays or mouth rinses should be used, for example from ProntoLind®.
