Dosage for adults over 75 years | Tramal long®

Dosage for adults over 75 years

For adults older than 75 years of age, a longer interval between intakes, both capsules and droplets, should be observed, as the active ingredient tramadol contained in the drug tramal is broken down more slowly than in younger people and for this reason remains in the body longer and can develop its effect there. Your doctor can make a dosage recommendation based on your condition and disease.

Dosage for children over 1 year

The same dosage recommendations apply to children over the age of 12 as for adults. Children aged 1 to 11 years receive doses of 1-2 mg of tramal per kilogram of body weight. Children under 2 years of age should not take Tramal drops due to the risk of laryngeal cramps.

For children over 2 years of age an extra dropper bottle is available from which the child can receive 4 to 8 drops per 10 kilograms of body weight. This corresponds to a dose of 1 to 2 mg tramadol per kg body weight. Assuming a one-year-old child weighs 10 kilograms, he or she will receive 4-8 drops, depending on how much is needed to relieve the pain.

From the age of 12 years on, the recommended dose of the drops is the dose intended for adults. Tramal suppositories are available in a dosage of 100 mg. The dose is not suitable for children and adolescents younger than 14 years of age. The daily dose of 400 mg tramadol, corresponding to 4 suppositories, must not be exceeded. The effect lasts 4-8 hours, depending on the intensity of pain.

Summary dosage of Tramal ® long

Termination of drug therapy with Tramal ® long 100 mg should be done gradually. An abrupt discontinuation of Tramal ® long 100 mg generally does not lead to side effects. After a very long period of taking Tramal ® long 100 mg, sudden discontinuation of the medication can lead to unpleasant side effects: In cases of weak kidney function (renal failure) or weak liver function (liver failure) Tramal ® long 100 mg should not be taken.

A special dose adjustment for older people (over 75 years of age) is not necessary, taking into account the general side effects. In some cases, due to reduced excretion of the active ingredient, a larger interval between doses of the individual medication may be necessary.
