Dosage form

The devil’s claw is available in different dosage forms. It can be taken in the form of There is the devil’s claw in “pure form” or as a combination product with homeopathic active substances like:

  • Tablets
  • Effervescent tablets
  • Capsules
  • Drops (may contain alcohol! )
  • Powder
  • Tea
  • Ampoules for injection under the skin (subcutaneous), into the skin (intracutaneous), into the vein (intravenous) or into the muscle (intramuscular) (may contain alcohol). Injection therapy is usually carried out in the form of subcutaneous (subcutaneous) wheals.
  • Arnica
  • Hypericum
  • Bryonia
  • Symphytum etc.

Side effect

Overall, side effects are rare. Rarely diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, dizziness and headaches have been described. Very rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, hives, facial swelling (facial edema) and circulatory collapse (shock) or an increase in blood sugar in known diabetes mellitus (diabetes) occur.

Contraindication contraindication

In case of an existing gastric ulcer (Ulcus ventriculi) or duodenal ulcer (Ulcus duodeni) the Devil’s Claw must not be taken. Gallstone disease (cholecystolithiasis) may be a contraindication. In children under 12 years of age there is insufficient evidence.

Dosage

The dosage depends on the dosage form and ranges from 2 tablets (1-0-1) to three times 30 drops (1-1-1). Please refer to the package insert for exact details. The tablets contain between 200 – 600 mg – usually 480 mg – dry extract from the devil’s claw root.
